Just Until....
YBN Cordae is the best member of the group Young Boss N****s. He has the most potential out of any rapper in his generation of rap and is a protégé of one of the best rappers right now. There is a lot of hype for his upcoming album and this new EP definitely ignites the fire.
MORE LIFE FT. Q-TIP
The beginning of "More Life" has an Awkward feature by Tribe member "Q-Tip" but without it the song would be somewhat empty. YBN Cordae is the best in his lane with his extensive subject matter and thought provoking flow and it shows throughout the track. Cordae touches on subjects such as loyalty in relationships, looting during protests, and accepting/appreciating life. The beat is very positive and happy. Cordae has multiple bars about being yourself which resonate with me. The production sounds like something you would play at a wedding. More Life is collectively a very happy beat mixed with realistic and conscious rapping.
DREAM IN COLOR
The production on this song sounds like a literal dream. The beat has a choir, auto-tune background vocals, and a synth bass. What more could you ask for? The hook on this track is very catchy. Cordae does very well rapping about positivity, unity, and his partner’s loyalty. Cordae delivers a groovy verse on top of a percussion loop with a lot of swing on it. Cordae creates a wonderful experience and it is impossible to not sing along.
WASSUP FT. YOUNG THUG
Cordae forgets every conscious/humble subject he has rapped about in the previous tracks. He delivers a braggadocious verse upon this insanely hard beat with trap 808’s and a guitar loop which is perfect for Young Thug's style. I generally have low expectations for Young Thug but he definitely does not disappoint. Although Young Thug doesn't necessarily go toe to toe with YBN Cordae lyrically, he does well enough rapping back and forth with him to get through the song. Rather than making the feature pertain to Cordae’s style, a very intricate and unique sound, Cordae decides to dabble in Young Thug's melodic-toxic-drug induced techniques and surprisingly does a great job at it.
THORNTON STREET
Thornton Street is a conversation between YBN Cordae, his mother, his father and us, as the audience. Cordae talks about his early life and his mother’s struggles while flowing over a simple and repetitive Boom Bap Beat. Thornton Street is the most introspective track off of this unfortunately short EP. Cordae uses this “4 pack” as a teaser for his upcoming album and alludes to its subject matter in it’s closing track's conclusion. The Album is coming soon!
